Making magic happen by raising money

and awareness for worthwhile organizations

Hi Everyone!

The First 100 contest is officially closed! I'm so proud of the 100 Future Professionals and staff members who raised at least $3,000 each, for a total of over $300,000 from this contest alone! I'm also extremely proud and honored by each and every one of you who came close or even not-so-close. Every dollar we raise will help someone who needs our help, so keep up the great work and know that YOU are making a difference today.

With just 3 weeks left in this year’s campaign, consider trying some of the ideas listed in this week’s Victories. And if you haven’t had a ONE Event, please schedule one now. They’re easy, they don’t require much advance planning, and THEY WORK! You’ll find everything you need on the Hub, under the FUNraising tab.

WEEK 9 VICTORIES

  • Paul Mitchell The School Las Vegas raised $1,205 with their biggest princess party yet. Learning Leaders Jessica and Dezarae dressed up as Belle and Snow White to help create a magical day.
  • Paul Mitchell The School Bradley raised $716 with their prince and princess party. They set up stations for hair, makeup, and nails, plus drawing/coloring and "make your own bear." For $5 more, kids could make their own stuffed animal, which came with a customized Paul Mitchell The School Bradley T-shirt. Paul Mitchell kids’ Take Home was displayed at the front desk, along with vendor area for parents to visit. As guests left, they received flyers announcing the upcoming Easter-themed Princess Party and birthday party events.

  • The Lab, A Paul Mitchell Partner School, raised over $3,000 with their annual fashion show, bringing their grand total to $18,300. Future Professionals prepped their models using skills they learned the previous week in Advanced Academy educator Jan Ryan’s makeup class. Other recent highlights included a Skype call with Winn Claybaugh and a themed potluck where Future Professionals brought favorite foods from their growing-up years and wore outfits from that era.
  • Paul Mitchell The School North Haven raised $750 with their “Junk Couture” fashion show. Future Professionals cleverly created all of the outfits from “junk” such as plastic tablecloths, magazines, aluminum foil, and Dunkin’ Donuts bags.

  • Paul Mitchell The School Lombard held a “look and learn” class that raised $3,000. Check out their video: http://youtu.be/5diK5KDK-Lg
  • Paul Mitchell The School Provo raised $1,120 with a hypnotist show. Volunteer audience members had the audience in stitches as they did everything from acting like 5-year-olds who wanted to sit on Santa’s lap to being abducted by aliens. The school raised another $1,000 with their Polynesian Plate event, featuring authentic Polynesian food and yummy treats made by Front Desk team members Rhi Wright and Cacci Karcich.
  • Paul Mitchell The School Chicago combined FUNraising with giving back when they partnered with Neuro drinks and HerCampus to host an event for college students who participate in philanthropic efforts in the community. They raised $900, thanks to a donation from Neuro, and did 90 manicures and hand-arm massages. The Future Professionals were SO excited to do this event!

  • The Advanced Academy is on the move! Style and Texture Team member Danielle Piniarski raised $2,750 with her latest long hair class, bringing her total to over $12,000 this year. Color Team member Robyn Corcoran raised $5,700 in one day. Style and Texture Team member Aubrey Harley created a great video to inspire learners about his iTexture Training. Check it out at www.youtube.com/paulmitchellschools on the 2014 FUNraising Campaign playlist.
  • The Utah Corporate Office put down their dessert forks and picked up imaginary bowling balls last week, raising $102 with their Wii bowling tournament. This week, they raised $77 with their Potato and Salad bar. They’ve raised $2,955 toward their goal of $3,100, and they still have several events to go.
  • Paul Mitchell The School Schenectady’s bowl-a-thon raised $1,900 from lane sponsors, bowlers, a Chinese auction, a 50/50 raffle, and a Spin and Win Wheel.

  • Kathy Buckley and the No Limits Kids have sent four love-note videos to our Future Professionals and staff! Watch them on the 2014 FUNraising Campaign playlist at www.youtube.com/paulmitchellschools

Tip of the Week: Home Stretch Questions

With just a few weeks left in our 2014 FUNraising campaign, are you doing everything you can to reach your goal? Take this quick little quiz to see where you stand:

1. Have you been notifying your local media about your FUNraising events? The fact that a group of students nationwide has an incredible goal of raising $2.5 million for charity is big news, so make sure you share it with the press. It’s good for promoting your events and, even more important, for increasing awareness about your school. (Press release templates are on the Hub FUNraising tab.)

2. Are you asking for pledges and donations? Donations are still a great way to raise money and meet your goal. You only get what you ask for, so ASK! (Donation forms and support materials are on the Hub FUNraising tab.)

3. Are you thinking OUTSIDE your school? A lot of FUNraisers involve money coming directly from Future Professionals (Casual for a Cause, lunch sales, penny wars, etc.). Remember to plan activities that involve your local community to bring in funds from other sources and create great buzz about your school. A perfect example would be holding an Advanced Academy or other educational event and selling tickets to local stylists and salons.
